Polio is an aggressive, frightening disease that has been walking the Earth since the early part of the 20th century. To be able to eradicate polio, we are going to have to start by helping the world as a whole. In larger, more developed countries are not a large outbreaks; but in smaller, less developed, countries there is still a large amount of breakouts. In Nigeria, much violence has broken out due to the debate over the polio vaccine. The government has not done a lot to stop the violence towards the health care workers administering the vaccine.

The anticipated eradication of poliovirus is postponed both by the decrease in attentiveness towards it as well as the arrival of Covid-19. As attention paid towards the polio vaccine has decreased recently in place of attempting to compete and distribute a covid vaccine, the question is no longer whether or not the extermination of polio is possible, it’s when it will be decided to happen. A leading polio vaccine expert, Mohammed Mohammedi, even said that polio is “the easiest disease to get rid of,” it is just a matter of staying attentive and focused on the disease as well as having a cooperative determination to see it eradicated for good.

When it comes to deadly diseases, one single case can quickly become millions in just a couple days. This has been continuously evident with the Polio virus and the many times it has made its resurgence. Nigeria remains one of three countries in the world that still has the wild Polio virus spreading throughout the population. This is primarily due to the overall mistrust in the government by the people of Nigeria. Many Nigerians believe that vaccines are a way to control the population, and disguising it as a vaccine for Polio is a government tactic. With Nigeria being projected to become the third most populous country by 2050, the need to convince the people of Nigeria to vaccinate is paramount to the eradication of the deadly disease.

To completely eradicate Polio, every country in the world must be willing to cooperate in receiving the necessary vaccinations to achieve immunity. The country of Nigeria is not following up on immunizations in the country. This is because the Nigerian government does not have enough funds to invest in a proper health care system. If Nigeria were not so poor, they would be able to have a higher standard of living and in turn, a better health care system which will provide the opportunity for the Nigerian government to administer the necessary Polio vaccines to the people and address the importance of vaccines in general so herd immunity can be achieved. Nigeria’s cooperation in administering Polio vaccines is the key to eradicating Polio.

In order to eradicate anything from the world, there needs to be total cooperation from all citizens of every nation. The country of Nigeria currently stands in the way of our quest to eradicate polio due to the unwillingness of the northern part of the country to cooperate with the government due to the many other problems experienced by the people and lack of trust between the government and its northern citizens. The divide has reached the point where a simple vaccine such as this has instilled fear and rumors that something that is supposed to cure this deadly disease is contaminated with another virus in a plot to eliminate the Muslim population in the northern region. Until a solution can be reached, our quest to eradicate polio will never be complete.

The Nigerian government may be the reason why polio has never eradicated from the world. The inability of the government to properly inform the public about the vaccine contributes to this reason. The citizens of Nigeria feel unsafe taking the vaccine due to the lack of trust they have in their government. In 2003 -2004, rumors surfaced and created a frenzy that people from the northern states banned the polio vaccine. As stated, the Human Development Index ranked Nigeria 153rd out of 187 countries in Transparency International. The government needs to work with their people in order to eradicate polio.

Polio can never be eradicated if there is no trust between the Nigeran people and their government. There are contaminants rumored to be in the vaccine such as AIDS and one that could cause birth defects. As of 2014 there have already been efforts from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative trying to eliminate the virus that have cost up to $10 Billion. The Nigeran Minister for health and state claims that “there is a science to polio eradication”, but how much money is too much? This along with the rumors of what’s in the vaccine makes Nigerians hesitant to get the vaccine.

The Universe- honeysucklelilac

Quantum mechanics states that there is no such thing as empty space. It also tells us that nothing is unstable, and the jump from nothing to something was inevitable. There are particles that come into existence and can instantaneously fade back into nothingness. This proves that areas of space and time can form impulsively. We may not be able to witness these events, but we know they exist because of their effects. Something can come from nothing which begs the question, did the universe exist even before it was created? The universe exists because it was unavoidable for it to not come into existence.

The lack of trust between the corrupt Nigerian Government and the people will be one of the reasons polio may never be eradicated. The people of Nigeria have a strong Muslim population and because of this and the mistrust of the government they believe that the vaccines contain some sort of other disease like HIV in order to get ride of them. This and the lack of education on vaccines sparks violence across the country killing workers that attempt to vaccinate their people. The people can not be blamed, as they feel because of the government’s previous history they can not be trusted. The only possible way to contain this virus is to make the government trustable again which may take years or never even happen.

The Universe- JohnWick66

Why does the Universe Exist? Well, simply put it, why should it matter to humanity? We are a species on a speck in the middle of a vast darkness that spans billions if not trillions of light years across, and if the idea of the multiverse is true, then we are simply one of an infinite number of parallel universes in which contain infinite possibilities. We as a species cannot even properly care for the one thing sustaining us, Earth, and yet we wish to understand the creation of everything? Maybe we’re better off on our little blue planet.
