Writing Technique Importance

Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

This value is important because it gives you away to find information and be open with your writing and sharing it with other people. Like peers, instructor, tutors, friends, etc. For example, in one of my assignment I was assigned to write an essay about teens being obsesses with sneakers. So, what I did was that I started looking for professional articles of how obsession with sneakers are good and bad for teens. Articles by Beth Harpaz, The Family Circle a parent’s clubs website analysis, Marc Bain, Sandra Miller, Chittenden T; Kevin Smith, Elliot R. and Leonard C. They all see different perspective on how sneaker obsession is impacting teenage lives. This professional help me come up with the idea if my hypothesis, obsession with sneaker is problematic or not. I use different kind of research to conclude if I was correct or wrong.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.

This is important because it gives you the opportunity to understand something better and be curious. Also, this core value lets you critique and analyze what the text is talking about and going deeper in interpreting and understanding the text. With this you could evaluate and expand your thinking and having strategies. For example, when I was doing my purposeful summaries first I looked at other ones for reference and to have an idea on what to do, but what really help me was that I wasn’t just observing I was searching for those inner words that really defines how you interpret the article. It helps me understand it in a way like if it’s my own analysis. By doing this you develop a sense of thinking outside the box. It also gives you the opportunity to understand and acknowledge your own unique ideas and thinking. It could help you have a stronger and unique paper.

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

It helps you analyze choices and strategies from other authors. It also creates an effective text of your own. For example. In one of my assignments in class I had to select a video and write about the rhetorical situation (audience, purpose, and context). The video I selected was called “Alone: by an Ad Council.  The purpose of this video was to inform soldiers that they are not alone, and we are here to help them. This video where speaking to everyone to help each other for everyone to fill welcome. You know how many soldiers die for saving the country? The minimum thing we could do is help them. What people might be worrying about is if the soldier has a trauma is considered as a dangerous person. This core value helps us understand the point of a text, video, article, etc. Also, helps you develop an understanding of the massage it’s trying to give and at the same time thinking about everyone when it comes to making decisions. This gave me a better understanding on what I should focus on. This helped me think about the word “Why”.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

This helps us expand ourselves from our own ideas and thinking and incorporating other people point of views and acknowledgements. This core value helps us find and evaluate sources to illustrate, explain, and find ideas for your writing. It gives us the opportunity to open our mind to other people’s ideas. For example, in my rebuttal essay I talked about how teens obsession with sneakers has become problematic. One of the articles I use was Kevin Smith. I was against him that sneaker obsession is good for teens these days. So, what I did was that I am weakening Kevin Smith argument by looking for other sources. Apart from my own personal thinking I research what other people think about Smith argument and more points or facts about why he is wrong. By putting this core value into action, we could develop a mindset that not only our own ideas count but other people too and it also help us find evidence that support your idea. Also, this core value improves my assignment by giving me more information about why Smith was wrong and because of this it expands my way of thinking to always referred to other people point of view for a more trustworthy understanding.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

With this core value it could help you to not plagiarize. This gives you the opportunity to read another author’s text and listing to them. Also using their text as evidence but in quotation. So, writers must develop a skill to be able to locate and analyze what source they used. For example, I accomplish this value on my one of my assignment that it was called white paper. I took every source I used during the semester and I purposely summarize each source. Instead on just writing what the author tries to say in the article, I instead summarize the article by my understanding in my own thinking and words. Not only I used my personal point but other articles to support my idea. Quoting other authors ideas and evidence make readers want to read more of your writing because they rust you. It gives me the opportunity to expand my thinking to the next level by using other sources.
