Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

The work I chose to represent core value 1 is my rebuttal argument/ rewrite. I feel this rebuttal paper represents this value since this essay showed how diverse I could be by exploring and discovering points and claims that could falsify my research paper on a topic I’m very passionate about. I used articles that pained me to read, and quite frankly were hard hard to understand, and used it to make a coherent paper of slander against work I’m very happy with. This definitely helped me develop as a writer since it is such a challenging essay to form. Also, the rewrite itself helped me to make this paper better all around. From this paper, it will help me in future papers since I know how to look at my claims from another point of view, therefore having to make me work harder to get my statements across to convince my reader. 

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities. 

For core value 2, I picked my Stone money essay to represent this value. Before writing this essay, I listened to a podcast and critically read articles. This shows how I used ideas and claims that I have never even thought about from communities that believe money is fake to form my essay Cash, or Crap? which is about how the creation of money started, and how it can appear to be quite fake in the grand scheme of things. By using multiple sources, I was able to create meaning to my paper, and hopefully was able to convince readers I not only understood my topic, but believed in it as well. This essay was fun to write, since it was such a complicated and mind boggling topic to first read and listen to, then be able to write about. From this paper, it bettered my use of sources since I was able to write a whole paper on a whole topic I just learned about. 

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

The essay I picked to represent core value 3 is my visual rhetoric/ rewrite piece. During this piece, I chose a 30 second video and dissected and analyzed almost every second of the video. By doing this, you can see all the small intentional things the producer adds to get the point across that you usually wouldn’t even think twice about. This represents core value 3 since I was able to rhetorically analyze a visual argument in the form of a short 30 second video posted by Ad council. By doing this, you start to notice small things in movies in videos that are not so obvious, yet add so much to the movie or video as a whole. Also, when revising my piece, I feel I was able to summarize better and improve my analysis of the producers intentions of the small things that mean so much to the video.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

To demonstrate my completion of core value 4, I chose my research paper called Breeding for Looks, Not Health. I find this paper to represent this core value since this is definitely my best academic paper. In this paper, I emphasize the importance of proper breeding, and show the side effects of improper breeding and how terribly it can affect dogs and owners. I found this essay to be one of my favorite essays ever since it was an easy topic for me since I am so passionate about this topic and animals in general. This paper goes above and beyond with evidence and statistics that I have researched to therefore support my thesis and ideas. I also find this topic to not be talked about as much as it should, so I hope this essay can raise awareness by the facts I have stated in my paper. 

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

I chose my White paper as a good representation of core value 5 since used sources to make purposeful summaries. During this assignment, I used 5 sources for my research paper and cited them appropriately. From this, I feel I was able to use ethical claims from scholarly sources to drive my point home in Breeding for Looks, Not Health. I feel my research paper was a complex topic and not talked about nearly as much as it should be. My white paper really helped me significantly when starting my paper since I already had 5 summaries of my sources. Without having my white paper done, it definitely would have been harder to jump into this complex topic without previous knowledge. I do feel accomplished with this core value since I do feel I did meet the requirements of showing I can summarize complex topics and cite them correctly.
