If primary caretakers have a negative attitude toward their child it increases the risk that their child will grow up hostile towards others. And it’s not just aggression toward others that results from child abuse; a large number of children raised by abusive parents also harm themselves. The negative behavior is caused by the children not learning appropriate techniques for handling life’s disappointments. If kids aren’t raised with coping skills, they are much more likely to act “inappropriately” than if they have developed more reasonable approaches. The effect of poor parenting as reported by Dr. Geoffrey Dahmer in The Bully Papers, is that “parents get the child they deserve.”

Your primary caretaker is SINGULAR while THEIR child is plural, Anon. That’s an illegal number disagreement.

Those disappointments are the disappointments of life, making life possessive, requiring a singular possessive.

Your SOMEONE is singular while when THEY act inappropriately, and develop more reasonable approaches, they’re plural. That’s another illegal number disagreement.

We can be TOO likely to misbehave, and we can be MORE likely to misbehave THAN someone else, but we can’t be TOO likely to misbehave THAN someone else.

Dahmer’s EVERYONE is singular, but the child THEY deserve is plural. That’s your third illegal number disagreement.

I guess we know which grammar problem is likely to bedevil you most. 🙂
