Stand Your Ground-Brett Lang

The law called Stand Your Ground says people can kill someone in self-defense, and creates a culture of violence. Under these “shoot first” laws, people can engage in violent behavior in the name of self-defense and have a license to kill.Citizens have everyday conflicts like road rage, neighborly disputes, and suspicion of other races. They’re allowed to resolve these problems with guns. Stand Your Ground will definitely  lead to more killing because it makes it too easy for people to use the “self-defense” excuse. These laws will increase the number of murders. In Florida “justifiable” killings have tripled since the Stand Your Ground law passed in 2005. When people are allowed to take the law into their own hands others rights often get trampled. Their rights come first, and if they have a gun the other person is out of luck.

Don’t think it won’t affect people; everyone is less safe when they’re not sure whether their neighbor is packing heat. There’s already more gun possession than ever before, and it’s only going to get worse if a greater number of these laws get passed. Passing laws like these makes innocent people more likely to get shot. Stand Your Ground creates more trouble than it’s worth. If we repeal it will determine whether we respect our citizens’ lives.

Stand Your Ground – Evan Horner

There is a law called stand your ground that says a person can kill someone in self defense. This is law grouped in with other laws that can create a culture of violence. Under these “shoot first” laws, a person can engage in violent behavior in the name of self defense and basically have a license to kill. When citizens have everyday conflicts now, like road rage, neighborly disputes, and suspicion of other races, they’re now aloud to resolve it with guns. It’s definitely going to lead to more killing when it’s to easy for someone to use the ‘self-defense’ excuse. The reason I believe these laws will increase the amount of murders is because in Florida ‘justifiable’ killings have tripled since the Stand Your Ground law past in 2005. When a person is aloud to take the law into their own hands, the peoples’ rights often get trampled. My rights come first if I have a gun and you’re out of luck. One consequence of these laws will be more “street justice”.

Don’t think it won’t effect everyone, all people are less safe when they’re not sure whether their neighbor may or may not be packing heat. There’s all ready more of that then ever before, and it’s only going to get worse if a greater amount of these laws gets passed. By passing laws like these, innocent people are more than, if not certainly, likely to get shot. In short, Stand Your Ground is grouped in with other laws that create more trouble than they’re worth. Whether or not we repeal it will determine whether we respect our citizen’s lives or the criminals’.

Stand Your Ground with Caution

A rather new law, Stand Your Ground, permits the killing of an individual in self-defense; laws such as these, however, have a history of creating violent cultures. Under these “shoot first” laws, violent behavior in the name of self-defense is permitted, and basically  becomes a license to kill.  Everyday conflicts, like road rage, neighborly disputes, and suspicion of other races, are now allowed to be resolved with guns. Murder can only increase when a weak excuse such as “self-defense” is handed out like a Monopoly card. Florida alone proves that crimes akin to this will be more frequent, as “justifiable” killings have tripled since the Stand Your Ground law passed in 2005. When people are given the legal authorization to take the law into their own hands, the rights of the people often get trampled. Personal rights have become crucial, and all others “in my way” are out of luck. It’s almost as if the government is green-lighting vigilantism.

This law does in fact affect everyone; when any random individual is given the opportunity to “pack heat,” everyone else is less safe. There’s already an influx, and it’s only going to get worse if a greater number of these laws are passed; enacting, in turn, will lead to more injured innocents. Stand Your Ground will do more will cause more harm in addition to the violence it intends to prevent, and the issue of repeal is life-or-death; that is, life or death of civilians by unstable gunmen.

Stand Your Ground – Jesse Samaritano

Stand Your Ground is a law that states someone is allowed kill someone else in self-defense and can create a culture of violence. Under the “shoot first” laws, a person can engage in violent behavior in the name of self-defense and basically have a license to kill. When citizens have everyday conflicts, like road rage, neighborly disputes, or suspicion of other races, they’re allowed to resolve them with guns. It’s definitely going to lead to more killing because the “self-defense” excuse is easy to use. These laws have increase the number of murders in Florida because “justifiable” killings have tripled since the Stand Your Ground law passed in 2005. When a person is allowed to take the law into his or her own hands, the people’s rights often get trampled.

Don’t think that it won’t affect you; people are less safe when they’re not sure whether their neighbors are packing heat. There’s already more social unrest than ever before, and it’s only going to get worse if a greater number of similar laws get passed. Laws like “Stand Your Ground” increase the risk of innocent people to get shot. In short, Stand Your Ground is a law that creates more trouble than it’s worth. Repealing the law will show people respect the citizens’ lives more than the criminals’.

Motor Patterns in Walking

This is an academic paper about the physiology of walking. It explains how we walk, and also goes into some detail on why walking is not perfect. I will use this to help me define walking, and how it is, in itself,  a very complicated and flaws process.

Animal Migration

This explains how animals navigate and find their way during migration. The article states that many animals use the same techniques for navigation as humans do. For example, a visual landmark. It also talks about an experiment where sea turtles were “blinded” from sensing a magnetic force that they used as a landmark and ended up getting lost. I will use this to make a comparative argument between our navigation and animals navigation.

Ancient Navigators

This article describes all of the different ways that ancient sailors used to navigate on the open seas. Just like how it is impossible to walk in a straight line while blindfolded, it is impossible to sail straight without the help of navigation. I will compare the methods used to navigate on the open sea to those used while on land.

The Free Dictionary – Straight Line

I will use this to help me define what exactly a straight line is, and what definition goes along with my topic.
