Increasing tuition and decreasing state funding is becoming a trend by every school in the United States. You will never see the cost of attending a 4-year college go down. In fact, tuition either rises throughout the 4 years a student enrolls or stays the same. The is becoming a major problem for low-income students and families. “Students from families that struggle to get by— including those who live in communities with lower shares of college-educated adults and attend high schools that have higher student-to-counselor ratios — tend to overestimate the true cost of higher education more than students from wealthier households in part because they are less aware of the financial aid for which they are eligible,” according to Michael Mitchell, Michael Leachman, and Kathleen Masterson in “Funding Down, Tuition Up.” Evidence shows that most families and students that have lower income are colored. This is why many people believe campus diversity is being jeopardized. The way colleges budget their money is the main reason why people will never get a chance to further their education after high school.

“More money, more buildings,” should be the slogan for colleges. Instead of giving out more money to help out students that want to further their education, colleges are more worried about the buildings. As a student, I could care less about what a dorm looks like or classroom. This is just my opinion, but I know many other students could verify this claim. Jon Marcus claims, in “The Paradox of New Buildings on Campus,” that “The problem is compounded by the fact that they nonetheless continue to build more—spending a record $11.5 billion last year—in the hope of attracting students at a time when enrollment is leveling off or falling.” Schools are assuming that we as students are more attracted to buildings, which is a joke. The cost of attendance would attract more students than new buildings. Increasing tuition is a scapegoat for schools that need money for new buildings. Jon Marcus claims, in “The Paradox of New Buildings on Campus,” that “It’s an endless game of chasing your tail,” Swanson said. “Every year we lose ground and costs increase. And if we don’t get the money from the legislature, the only other place we have to get it is tuition.” In this case, many students are losing the chance to better themselves in life because of the school’s fetish for new buildings. Education is treated as a business and to get the education you need for a better job, you must face these problems. I will always believe that you will go broke trying to get rich because of the fact that it cost you thousands of dollars just to get a few chances for a top notch job. “Still, in spite of their financial woes, universities and colleges spent $11.5 billion last year on construction, an all-time high, according to Dodge Data & Analytics, a private company that tracks this,” according to Jon Marcus in “The Paradox of New Buildings on Campus.”

The crazy part about all of this is that some people believe that you have the choice to not go to school. School is not a choice when jobs are hiring people only with a college education. Jeffrey J. Selingo claims, in “College students say they want a degree for a job. Are they getting what they want,” that “a recent Harris Poll found that two-thirds of 14- to 23-year-old students want a degree to provide financial security, ranking it above all else when it comes to their motivation for going to college.” Working for 10$ an hour will not help your family forever, so how is going to college a choice? Nobody wants to rely on state funding and weekly McDonalds checks all their life. The mindset of these students is caused by the rising of tuition and stagnant wages. This is becoming a problem for schools because it makes it seem like 4-year Universities are turning into trade schools. They say that higher education is supposed to stay with you forever, but in this era, many students think it is just about the money you make after the 4 years. Of course, like every other topic, colleges are showing barely any progress to fix the mindset of students. “To prepare for the changing nature of work, colleges need to be more flexible in their academic offerings and employers in how they hire. That way, students will get what they want out of higher education and won’t fall into the trap of underemployment,” according to Jeffrey J. Selingo in “College students say they want a degree for a job. Are they getting what they want?” We face a lot of problems when it comes to further our education, so to help us out colleges should definitely lower tuition. We go through hell and back just to make our parents proud of us. The cultural needs to change now before so many kids can get that chance to make their parents proud.

The problems stated before are the main reasons why colleges need to be more affordable. Leave the buildings and the adding staff alone and focus more on the kids. The numbers of enrollment will increase when the tuition decrease. “Over the last 20 years, the price of attending a four-year public college or university has grown significantly faster than the median income,” according to Michael Mitchell, Michael Leachman, and Kathleen Masterson in “Funding Down, Tuition Up.” I encourage all students and staff to demand change for the colleges. You can’t leave out staff because of the fact that if kids have the mindset of just going to school for money it’s no point to give out lectures then. The problem with this country is that we are too late to speak on an issue. We wait and wait for the situation to become a crisis, then speak on it. We must deal with this situation now because a lot of people want that chance to further their education.

The idea of not guilty by reason of insanity has been in play in America’s legal justice system since the discovery of the many mental disorders. Not guilty by reason of insanity is determined by the capacity of the perpetrator at the time of the crime. It is in place because of society’s balance between believing “…that criminals should be punished for their crimes…,” but also believing that “…people who are ill should receive treatment for their illness.” (Cornell Legal Information Institute). There has been a line between the mentally ill and the criminally evil for ages, but nobody has ever seemed to easily decipher who lies above that line and who lies below that line. This defense sets in motion the help that victims of mental illness need to ensure that they are no longer a threat to themselves or society. When found not guilty by reason of insanity, those who are compelled by their illness to commit these crimes are sent to a psychiatric facility instead of sent to a maximum security prison where they would receive absolutely no help. Many perpetrators involved in crimes of passion attempt to use this defense by stating that they were mentally ill, even though their judgement was simply just clouded by anger, and it does not create an excuse for the heinous crime they have committed. Although, in some cases the perpetrator is actually suffering from a mental illness, and require the help that is needed in order to help with the illness and decrease the chance of that person hurting someone else ever again.

In the case of Andrea Yates, she was found guilty for the murder of her five children, until the verdict was eventually overturned in 2005. She was then found guilty by reason of insanity due to her multiple mental illnesses that she had been suffering from throughout the time of the crime, and throughout the trial. Yates was suffering from postpartum depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and bulimia, which was the cause of her “…pathological guilt regarding herself and her performance as a mother.” (Diamond, 2008). These mental illnesses took over Yates’ life and eventually led her murder her five children. The thoughts of the devil in her head were telling her that the only way to save them was to kill them. With the defense of not guilty by reason of insanity, Yates was sent to a psychiatric hospital where she continues to receive the help necessary to decrease her symptoms instead of being sent to a lifetime in prison.

Not guilty by reason of insanity is used by thousands of lawyers all around the country. The time old question remains, is this a reasonable and logical defense to use for perpetrators who are, in fact, mentally ill? The defense, when coming to a verdict, allows those who truly need help get the proper treatment needed. Without this defense prisons would be flooded with hundreds of criminals who are mentally ill and maybe cannot ask for the help required for them. Criminals with the defense of not guilty by reason of insanity are set to the standard of the “McNaughton Rule” which applies the accusation that the perpetrator “…does not know right from wrong.” (Cornell Legal Information Institute). The criminals who are involved in crimes of passion know the difference between right and wrong, but are so overcome with their emotion that it leads them to commit a crime such as homicide, kidnapping, robbery, or whatever the case may be. These perpetrators are the ones who should not be found guilty by reason of insanity because there is no actually illness present that cannot be stopped. Prisons should be filled with those who choose to commit their legal acts rather than those who are controlled completely by the mental illnesses that seem to define them. Many defendants who have a history of mental illness cannot control, are not aware of, or are too compelled by their mental illness to do anything about it. Not guilty by reason of insanity is a way for the mentally ill to be set apart from the criminally evil, and receive the help they need while paying for the crime they have committed.

High profile lawyers and an unbalanced criminal justice system have a lot to do with each other. The criminal justice system can be altered by many different factors, one being the status of the criminal and the lawyer representing them. Many high profile lawyers are hired by high profile people. This already gives these criminals the upper hand in when trying to win their case. However, lawyers of high stature have been known to find legitimate ways to keep their clients out of jail, while also finding ways to publicize themselves and make more money off of the high profile cases. These tactics used by lawyers help to create a criminal justice system that is unbalanced and unequal to all criminals. High profile lawyers may be the cause of an unbalanced criminal justice system. The criminal justice system seems as though it has a system for normal middle and lower class people and than a whole different system for high-class people, thus, creating a very unfair, unbalanced criminal justice system.

In relation to my thesis, high profile lawyers by definition are well-respected lawyers of higher notoriety in our justice system, that are able to gain media attention and are only available to people with a lot of money. These types of lawyers take cases that involve celebrities, this means that they are paid more by their clients, and usually, the only people that can afford them also have a high profile. As explained in an article written by H. Patrick Furman called “Publicity in High Profile Criminal Cases”, these lawyers also have connections and power in the media that is higher than that of a public defender. This means that a client of higher status may have more options and plea deals at the time of sentencing because a jury may have formed an opinion influenced by a tabloid. This can also have a negative effect on the client however because the media may say negative things about the lawyer or the criminal that can jeopardize the case(517). In turn, this can create an unfair trial for the client possibly because of the lawyers’ reputation. These high profile lawyers do not always use legitimate strategies when it comes to defending their clients. However, this is allowed because the lawyer may have a favorable reputation. High profile lawyers are not only trying to win their case, but many of them have intentions of gaining media attention for their own benefit. It is also explained in the article that “it seemed that the lawyers spent more time in front of the camera than in front of the bench. Ironically, after the trial, half of the lawyers got their own television shows.” (507) This proves my definition because it shows that in high profile cases these lawyers are able to gain media coverage afterward, which makes them even more money. This may be their only reasoning behind helping these people.

An unbalanced criminal justice system has been a problem since the beginning of time. There will never be a perfect way to balance a system based on two things, guilty and not guilty. Nothing is ever black and white, however, our criminal justice system has come pretty close to figuring it out. The balance, however, is being disturbed by the fact that not everyone is able to get the same type of defense. People with more money are getting off more easily and it is not fair that someone whose only option is a public defender does not get the same type of representation as someone who has a high profile lawyer. An unbalanced criminal justice system is a system by which the courts treat a person differently than they treat other people because of their status. According to an article titled “Celebrity Justice” by John Gibeaut “advocates say today’s unmatched effort at secrecy cheats the public out of its First Amendment right to observe and criticize the system through its surrogates in the press. Ideally, public oversight is supposed to keep the system honest.”(44). As regular people, when we go to court our cases are heard by a public jury, where they vote on whether we are guilty or not guilty. Just because our stories don’t end up in the media and all over tabloids doesn’t mean its not public information just like a person of a higher profile. The criminal justice system would rather close case on high profile cases rather than find actual justice just to keep everything quiet. But, is thise fair to the people who are not of a high profile whose cases also are part of a public record? Definitely not. This helps to “[create] the appearance of a two-tiered justice system-one for celebrities and the other for everyone else-media”(44). This just further explains how unbalanced and unjust our system really is when it comes to higher profile cases. No matter what your status is, what class you are, everyones cases should be presented to the public. If you are of a higher status it should be expected by yourself and whoever is representing you that this will somehow get into the media.

An unbalanced criminal justice system and the power of high profile lawyers have a strong correlation as one of these is the cause of another. This is why it is obvious that my hypothesis “Celebrities are given unlawful and special treatment in the court of law as a result of high-profile lawyers utilizing illegitimate tactics, creating an immoral and unbalanced criminal justice system.” is so important. High profile lawyers cause this system to be unbalanced by trying to get rich off of their rich clients, not helping the poor and using their reputation to unfairly and unjustly support their clients. The criminal justice system is unbalanced because of these methods. People of the lower and middle class a lot of the time do not have access to these kinds of lawyers, therefore they do no get the same type of representation.

How many people are going to continuing dying from sneakers? Increasingly, about 1200 people die every year because of sneakers according to  according to a video posted Nov. 14 by GQ magazine. These reasons involve robbery, jealousy, hate, and safety. Sneaker company’s owners have tried different ways to reduce the amount of death by changing purchase time. The first releases came out at midnight, changing them to mornings. Thinking that is going to be game changer when it comes to deaths, but owners realize that death are happening after purchases not during. Sneakers are starting to be valuable like money is for teens.

Sneakers for teens is seen has a safety measure. According to Dan Cherry an advertising executive in New York, he believes that the reason why teens are so obsessed with sneakers is because sneakers expresses their own individuality, not only this but also because teen would get bit up and called a dork if they don’t have a cool pair of sneaker. This is so important to know and acknowledge because this obsession is causing a high amount of deaths and financial problems.

Sneaker is a product that increase deaths making them so dangerous. Did you know that the victims of this tragic circumstances are mostly young African American black males?

The meaning of having sneakers before was to not be barefooted. having at least a shoe was amazing. Now they are looked at by their design and looks. In my case I love a $20 show that is comfortable than a $160 shoe that is hard from the inside. Teens are not even realizing how many people want a pair of choice and teens are worrying about the design and how it looks like.

Also, in this day’s teens are being obsessed with clothing and hats. Fights happening on the streets and school yards. Teens gangs are a big part of this. “It’s principally an ego-trip thing.” This means that for them the cool way of being in a gang is to have expensive things, so they steal. Like what happened to Mirik Nowak, “I was just coming out of a young driver’s course when I was jumped. Fortunately, I got away,” he said. “They ask for your jacket, they ask for your hat. It sorts of starts things off and leads to them beating you up.” Wearing things like this causes thugs to be around you all the time.

Something like this really happened to me. It was a summer day and I was riding bike by myself. That day in the afternoon I saw a big group of like 10 young teen boys, 4 with bikes and the rest walking. I started to wonder why the were looking at me so much and why the were separating and going different direction in a sneaky way. I started wondering that they going to beat me up and I started going home. When out of know where I see these two boys running towards me. I knew at this moment they were trying to steal my bike. I started going faster and finally I got home before they got me. This shows that obsession with fashion is rally began being violent. This ties in with the obsession with sneakers because sneakers also belong in the fashioned industry and people are getting in fights and problems because of this circumstance.

” Source Statistics Canada/ Staff illustration by Richard Johnson/ Charges double: *Violent-offence charges against youths increased to 855 per 100,000 youths in 1991, up from 415 in 1986. *Police laid 632 assault charges per 100,000 youths in 1991, up from 300 in 1986. *Much of the violence by children is against children – victims were aged 12-17 in almost half of all minor and aggravated assaults, and in about a third of sexual assaults and robberies. *Children under 12 accounted for 60 per cent of victims in sexual assault cases. People over 65 were victims in one per cent of violent youth crimes. Colin Price/ Lower Mainland teens face a new fashion risk: Violence. Vancouver’s Mirik Nowak (92-6804) (right) has dodged one attempt to steal his 49ers jacket. Fellow teens Rav Panesar, Zahra Khoja and Shelly Halliday (92-6804) (left) all have, or know of, similar stories. As for police, they blame a craze for status insignias, like the Bulls logo above. (92-6804);”

In both efforts, we don’t really know when this is going to stop from affecting millions of lives, or even if it they could because there is how to still no answer on how to reduce the amount of violence and death. Parents are afraid their kids might be robbed, while teens are just focus on not getting bullied at school or in the street. They say that at the end of the day a thug and getting bit up in school is the same thing, so for them is better to get robbed by someone than being bully every single day by the same people.

This obsession goes more beyond on just being an item. Now you could see sneakers as an important aspect in your life, specially teens.

According to Dan Cherry he believes that the sneakers show the identity that they teen has. Sneakers symbolize hip-hop, skateboarding, basketball, and more. This is one of the big reason’s teens must keep up because these things are trending now. All of this when it has to do with robbery or stealing and beating you up is a controversy that we are dealing with sense a long time ago. Deaths because of these reasons, is just a question that you will say to yourself how is this even happening?

At the end of the day there still nothing to reduce the violence and deaths of this obsession, but sneakers belonging in the fashioned industry explains why a tragic controversy is, because everything in the fashioned list that is trending now is causing a lot of violence. If you think about it a material came to be a weapon in this world. We could conclude that anything that is obsesses is dangerous.

Broke Scholarships

The NCAA has made billions of dollars off of student athletes success. These hard working football and basketball player dedicate their lives to receive no type of wage. Scholar ships are pocket change given to athletes as the higher executives write themselves huge checks.

With the NCAA making well over a billion dollars on athletes success, it should make sense for the NCAA to pay their “Workers”. College football coaches get contracts worth tens of millions, while their counterparts get scholarships worth virtually nothing. With the athletes generating nearly 1 trillion dollars in the last 40 years, getting a degree and a well paying job would only account for 5% of their contribution. The word your looking for is slavery. although no one is being forced to do anything, they are enticed to work hard every year just to have the smallest chance to go pro. While all the executives and coaches are banking off of them.

University’s are supposed to be about getting an education, but for these big schools that make 8-9 figures on athletics they put pressure on the athletes to perform and the athletes wind up taking easy classes and most of the time pass classes they would of failed. The world we live in today is all about money. But as Americans we stand up for freedom and having someone else get paid for a job you do is not freedom. It is communism. Imagine working at your job. You have all the benefits an average job would offer. You always work to the best of your ability and constantly make huge sacrifices for your job. Then when pay day comes you have to give 95% of your check to your boss, because you have benefits and do not need the pay. This is what college athletes in the big division 1 schools experience. Greedy businessmen and women take advantage of their power to make themselves rich off of others talent.

Scholarships have grown increasingly worthless due to all these money savages, who are crazed on being rich and have no emotion to the hard working contributors of this booming business. Corporations banking on these players such as Nike and Under Armour, are not even allowed to endorse them. Which I do not think they care about that rule because it saves them a ton of money and they are not taking any of the fall during this controversy if things were to go right and players are paid. Only University’s will pay for it, but these big businesses are just as much in the wrong as they brand the players with their logo, and support the argument that they receive scholarships, so they don’t need pay. The Same companies that market their business as being for the players. Players show off their shoes and market their brand and in return big corporations don’t even pay them. These sharks steal from the poor to make themselves richer and they do it on a promise of a contract if they go pro. The big key word is If. Most college athletes in the top earning sports do not make it to the pro level, but they still put in just as much time and energy as the ones that do make it. These are the guys that no one seems to care about. After 4 years of grinding and generating your school millions, your left with a degree that is worth virtually nothing. No Special talent was developed because these schools pushed these kids through classes and pass them without them learning anything. Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants is a prime example of this. He would never go to class but then show up once for the exam and magically finish off with an A. Now most of these guys are extremely un- educated. I think that’s what the university’s want just so no one is smart enough to speak out against them, and it may have worked for years in the past, but this is a new era people are getting smarter and sticking up for themselves more than ever. This situation is almost identical to the situation in the catholic church, when they would charge you so you don’t have to go to purgatory. Then came along Martin Luther and just like Luther, players today are breaking away from the norm and standing up for what they believe. They will not let the rich and powerful university’s take advantage of them anymore and in the future we could very well see a shift in power. power to the people.

Its hard to argue that scholarships are moral . They were originally intended to give free education and housing to reward students for their effort. Now they are a fraudulent contract that were skillfully planned to look like they are doing the players a favor. These scholarships in relation to how valuable the players are to the school are worthless. The money flows toward the top and the bottom feeder players get nothing but a free education or even anything at all.

Jared Goff being the worst post season quarterback to represent an NFC West team in the Super Bowl is something that can’t be defined through sports writers opinions, but rather something that needs to be proved through numbers. Numbers that define his performance, his efficiency, and what he contributes to his team. The regular season statistics are irrelevant to his play on the post season, and will be ignored. In his 2 playoff appearances, I know that Jared Goff is the worst post season quarterback to represent an NFC West team in the Super Bowl.

The first thing to look at is Goff’s efficiency in the most recent post season, that just ended a little more than a month ago. Out of all 12 quarterbacks who took snaps, Goff placed 10th with a quarterback rating of 45.6. Quarterback rating is a statistic used by sports analysis’ that measures the entire performance of a quarterback, from how he’s done passing, rushing, the amount of turnovers he’s committed, and how many penalties have been called against him and is on a scale from 0-100. To put his 45.6 into perspective, Phillip Rivers led the league in post season QBR with a 78.4. Now with his 45.6 QBR, his best QBR this post season was against the New Orleans Saints with a 75.1. To put that into perspective, the best QBR in a game this post season was Tom Brady against the Los Angeles Chargers with an 87.2. Goff’s worst QBR in the three game post season span was an awful 13.5 in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. What these statistics show is that although he had the 4th best QBR in a single post season game, he had the 2nd worst in a single post season game. Although he was able to make it all the way up to the Super Bowl, he seems to be nothing but a liability on a talented team, who shows signs of decency but is ultimately holding them back.

It’s time to focus on Goff’s Super Bowl performance, and how it relates to past quarterbacks performances. For starters, he threw 38 passes and completed 19 of them, averaging 4.7 yards per pass. Just in a quick comparison to his opponent that game, Tom Brady threw 35 passes and completed 21 of them averaging 7 yards per pass. Although the attempts and completions are relatively close, the ‘yards per pass’ show us that Goff was tossing up much safer throws for significantly less yards. Neither quarterbacks threw a touch down in the contest, but Goff managed to commit a turnover with his 1 interception that was thrown with less than 5 minutes in the game, down 10-3, and on his opponents 27 yard line. The Rams were forming a comeback drive late in the game and he choked. Brady hauled the ball for 262 yards and Goff threw for 229 yards. Enough of comparing the two that competed against each other, lets take a look at the worst Super Bowl appearances by NFC West quarterbacks. The NFC West has represented the NFC in the Super Bowl 14 times. The Niners have 6 appearances, the Rams have 4, the Seahawks have 3, and the Cardinals stand at one. It’s only fair to compare Goff with the 2nd worst NFC West Super Bowl performance by a fellow Ram in quarterback Vince Ferragamo, who threw 25 passes for 15 completions, 212 yards, and 8.5 yards per pass with an interception during Super Bowl XIV against the dominant Pittsburgh Steelers. Although these stats seem very close, the thing you have to look at is the fact that Goff threw 13 more passes while only completing 4 more, and the fact that Goff’s yards per pass is nearly half of Ferragamo’s. Another brutal NFC West quarterback’s Super Bowl performance we can look at is Matt Hasselbeck’s in Super Bowl XL for the Seattle Seahawks. In a face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hasselbeck threw a whopping 49 attempts while completing 26 of them for 273 yards on 5.6 yards per pass, an interception, and a touchdown. With the amount of attempts Hasselbeck threw, he still managed to stay above 50% on completions at 53%. One thing Goff, Ferragamo, and Hasselbeck all have in common is that they all lost. But Goff’s loss to the Patriots is something both record breaking and embarrassing: he was the quarterback for only the second team in Super Bowl history not to find the end zone throughout the entire contest, and took part in the lowest scoring Super Bowl ever with a total of 16 points scored.

Finally, comparing Goff to a plethora of other quarterbacks may not seem like the best way to prove his worth to some people. So, instead, let’s define greatness and what it means to be “great”. James Arthur Ray tells us in his article “WHAT IS GREATNESS”, which was published on July 5th, 2015 that, “True greatness is the ability to achieve what you choose to achieve in the area you choose to achieve it; and to achieve it with excellence and a level of mastery.” This is truly something that Goff has not been able to accomplish. Both years that he’s made it to the playoffs, he’s either lost in the first round or sneaked into the Super Bowl and gotten embarrassed. Even in his rookie season the Rams couldn’t make it to the playoffs, but not all the fault can be put on Goff. Even with their team today, having one of the best young coaches the NFL has ever seen in Sean McVay, a top rushing yards back in Todd Gurley, and one of the most feared defenses in the league, Goff lacks to prove his greatness and more so shows his weakness. He has certainly not achieved any sort of greatness in his poor performances and most definitely has not achieved anything with excellence and absolutely no sort of level of mastery. He has achieved weakness in the fact that he makes it to the Super Bowl and posts one of the worst QBRs during that post season with a 13.5 and even proves it in the minutes that matter, throwing his interception with just under 5 minutes left in the game while trying to host a comeback drive.

As for the football data base website, I went through multiple years and multiple games to pull statistics and wasn’t sure if you wanted me to pull the link after each time that I visited a tab with a different game, if that makes any sense. I’d be able to explain better in person tomorrow.

A Closer Look into Mind of a Money Launderer

About once every decade, a person usually decides that it is about time for a new mattress. It is not a daily, weekly, or monthly occurrence that someone needs to buy a mattress. Whenever someone looks inside of a mattress store, it is noticeable that there is never anyone inside. What is also noticeable is the signs on the front windows showing there’s a percentage off or deals to help you pay it off. After driving down the road and seeing a store to the left, it should be no surprise that there is one not even a mile up the road to the right. People are left to ask the question, why? What is the reason for all of these stores? There is no real solution to why there are a number of mattress stores within hundreds of feet of each other. There is a thought, however, that the answer to all of this is money laundering. Mattress stores could fall into this category of money laundering for various reasons. Whoever opened a mattress store is smart however, because the following information is in fact information that will change the way people look at mattress stores, and will turn to department stores rather than general mattress stores when they are looking to make a purchase.

Many people know that when you want to hide money, but you don’t want to put it in the bank, you stuff it under a mattress. Money laundering is, in shorter terms, when someone takes large amounts of money and little by little puts in and takes out the money from the bank. This, and along with many other transactions, makes the money seem legit. It is probably confusing as to how these two correlate. However, it is quite simple to see where the two tie together. As the money is put into a bank, let’s say, and it needs to be put in in smaller amounts. This is because it will look suspicious to the bank if there is a very large, unusual transaction. This way, money will be able to be put in and taken out without question. What should be done when you are waiting to deposit or make a transaction with the other money? Well, where is the best place to hide your money? In a mattress. Also, why stop there and only hide it under one mattress. Open up an entire branch of mattress stores so the money can be spread out amongst different locations without a trace. Open enough stores until the number of Starbucks stores are outnumbered by mattress stores.

A study done in Houston, Texas showed that there were 133 Starbucks stores. This does not include the number of Starbucks’ in the suburbs. Yet, the number of mattress stores seems to outnumber the amount of Starbucks’ in Houston. This doesn’t make any sense. Let’s get this straight. Starbucks, which has over hundreds of customers every day, has less stores than say a Mattress Firm, which maybe one hundred people go in within a month. No one will say that it is money laundering causing the number of mattress stores to increase. It is an arguable fact that the owners of most mattress stores are guilty of money laundering. The only reason no one would first guess this is because people are getting something out of it, a mattress. Owners, and this is going out on a limb, have to make themselves look innocent and actually give you what you’re there to get. They won’t see you in the next 10 years so they’re going to make sure you get what you want so you get your mattress.

The CEO of Mattress Firm, when he was asked the question of, “why are there so many stores?” was stuck on trying to find an answer too. He explained that for every 50,000 people, there is one store. In the Chicago area alone, there are about 235 mattress stores. In other areas, like Houston, there are more than 235 mattress stores alone. It leaves you stumped as you think about the possible reasons as to why on earth there would be this many mattress stores. However, when the idea of money laundering is brought up, you are left to question any other thought you had before. All of the pieces seem to fit right in when thinking about the relationship between mattress stores and money laundering. To reiterate, it is eye opening when you think about the number one hiding spot for money that is not in a bank. Yes, a mattress. Someone who is very familiar with this idea thought they should and did take it to the next level. This means country- wide money hiding in mattress stores here, and maybe there. It will never be traced because it is simply not easily traced. There are hundreds of thousands of mattress stores and not that many people who believe the number one reason for all of them has to do with money laundering.

To make a long, complicated argument short, mattress stores are an example of a money laundering scam. It may sound steep, and it might be a stretch, but it is convincing. There are tons of loose ends that tie together and it only seems logical when all of the loose ends are tied. The fact that there are over 235 mattress stores in the Chicago area alone, makes us wonder how many other stores there could be in bigger cities, or more populated areas. It only makes sense for one who is afraid to et caught for money laundering to try and spread out as much of the money they are trying to hide as wide as possible. There is no way there is this high of a demand on mattresses, for they are a once in a decade type of purchase. Studies show that there are too many mattress stores, and the CEO of mattress firm himself cannot express or explain himself why there are so many mattress stores, for he was baffled as well. Mattress stores being over built and no one inside of them is sketchy, and is almost proof that this is a money laundering scam.

Strong Opening- pomegranate

  1. Driving down the street, you look to the left, and you see a Mattress Firm. You drive a few hundred feet down the road, look to the right and see another Mattress Firm. You do a double take because you swear you just saw one of the same stores no more than 300 feet back down the road. You drive further, and no surprise, you see yet another Mattress Firm in a strip mall. At that point, you’re thinking to yourself, there is no need for there to be three Mattress Firms within a mile of each other. Realistically, how often does one buy a mattress? There can not be that high of a demand on mattresses. There is one answer to the question of why there are so many mattress stores, but no one inside. The answer to this is, money laundering.
  2. A person can not be identified as a citizen, and cam be deemed illegal. Similarly, when your money cannot be identified through real businesses or banks, it is deemed illegal. Money laundering is actually a crime that more than hundreds of thousands of people commit every year in the United States alone. Launderers have different techniques of making sure they don’t get detected and arrested for money laundering. A suspicion of money laundering could be mattress stores. There are so many of them, but no one ever inside. The owners need somewhere to hide their money that they are laundering. As we all know, most people would say the best place to hide money is, well, in a mattress. Now all of the pieces fall into place and we have a case on our hands, mattress stores are money laundering scams.

  1. Mental illness can be small and undetectable, or major and distressful, but either way it not only takes over a person’s brain, but their entire life. This is exactly what happened to Andrea Yates when she was convicted of murdering her five children. Nobody can understand why a person would do something so heinous for absolutely no reason until you get inside the mind of the murderer. The acts she has committed, although inexcusable, were the results of multiple psychological diagnoses that remained incurable.

2. Imagine drowning in your own thoughts, and feeling like you can’t escape from the voices inside your head to the point where you feel compelled to murder your five children. One day, Andrea Yates felt that the only escape was to drown each of her five children the bathroom of their home. She was so consumed with her psychological diseases that, in her mind, there was no other way to save her children from it than to drown them. The mental illness she endured had completely controlled her mind, body, life, and the lives of her own children.
