Vaughn, N. (2018, Apr 23). Higher minimum wage has pros, cons. Press & Sun-Bulletin

Background:

Simply put this was a newspaper article that weighs the pros and cons of the minimum wage raise. It takes place in New York and gives great information on both sides of the argument. For example gives stats and even quotes from Anthony Cuomo who put this bill into effect.

How I used it:

I used this article in both the pro and con way. However it was mainly used for my rebuttal essay for proving that money is what drives people and also arguing that Cuomo is giving ‘false hope’ in a way

Loriggio, P. (2017, Jul 22). Minimum wage pros, cons argued. Waterloo Region Record

Background:

Like the first source this is the groundwork for the argument. Giving extra information about bills and how people reacted. Also a big part of the bill was to raise the wage value to $15 per hour and having it slowly come into effect over the years.

How I used it:

I used it to show a simple quote, but which had meaning saying that this is already in action. It was a call to help. Emotional appeal.

Boudreaux, D. J. (2018, Jul 27). Minimum wage & technology. Tribune – Review / Pittsburgh Tribune – Review

Background:

Technology is in everything today and it really controls our lives. Whether it being the phones or the internet its all over. Well now technology has evolved and is now taking your jobs

How I used it:

This was mainly my most useful article or at least one of. It helped me prove the truth of self serving kiosks at McDonald’s and also how they are cheaper to maintain than a worker making minimum wage.

Binkley, A. (2018, Feb 20). Ontario sheds 51,000 part-time jobs in january; pace of minimum wage increase in spotlight after major part-time job losses.Ontario Farmer

Background:

This article focuses on the unemployment factors of the cons list. Farmers or people who are self employed have no need to worry however, it was the private sector jobs that were at risk

How it was used:

Used it to prove my point of how scary unemployment can increase. If not now then in the long run it’ll increase a boatload

Sawchuk, J. (2015, Mar 31). Minimum wage increase creates unemployment.Alberni Valley Times

Background:

This was a very simple article which main focus was to prove how real this is and give real world examples based on the numbers. Can’t disagree with those facts.

How it was used:

I used it in a way to form my first reason and branch off of that. Giving unemployment its number one best reason. Also i used it to prove inflation is a cause of raising the minimum wage.

Lee, C. E. (2014, Oct 02). Obama outlines economic case ahead of midterms; president calls for policies such as raising minimum wage, extending unemployment benefits. Wall Street Journal (Online)

Background:

With the midterm elections coming Obama was prepared to make his speech. Which included the ideas for a ‘plan’ to raise the minimum wage.

How I used it:

Although some phrases were paraphrased and no direct quotes were taken out, it was a good pool of knowledge to have to get a view of a very well respected man.

Brown, Charles; Gilroy, Curtis; and Kohen, Andrew. “The Effect of the Minimum Wage on Employment and Unemployment.” Journal of Economic Literature, Vol. 20, No. 2 (June 1982), pp. 487-528.

Background:

This is chalk full of just different types of theories one could learn in economics class. However it is helpful as they have many different types of models and scenarios to help guide you along a certain path.

How it was used:

I used this article to gather knowledge of how economics relates to this situation. Also showed how because of the high prices to pay the workers the benefit they get out is always lower than the supply
