There is a huge problem in Vancouver with heroin addicts committing crimes to support their habits. The “free heroin for addicts” program is doing everything they can to stop the addicts. The problem is that there is a large crime rate due to the addicts. It is obvious that addicts have a hard time getting through their day to day lives. Daily activities such as jobs, interactions, and relationships are hard to maintain because of the fact that they are using. By heroin users being addicted, they will do whatever they have to do to get their hands on the drug. The types of crimes committed are those of breaking and entering as well as stealing. There are no limits to where they will go to retrieve this drug so that they can feed their addiction. The problem with this program is that it won’t help to ween these addicts off using heroin. It is only trying to save the city from rising crime rates that they’re up to. By providing the drug, these addicts will be off the streets, which in turn will prevent them from committing minor street crimes. This will also keep the heroin users out of the hospital. It is pointless that the hospitals have to deal with people that want to use bad drugs or unsanitary needles and find themselves being unable to afford hospital bills and hard to cope without the drug. This program gives people free heroin in the cleanest way possible. This will in turn fix the city  but not the addiction that these people face.

The program “free heroin for addicts” have a plan to help the addicts, it won’t ween them off heroine it is just trying to control the amount of crime. These addicts contribute to the city’s crime rate every day by stealing or breaking and entering to obtain the drugs that will help them function. Revised: Vancouver’s crime rate is very high due to heroin addicts. These addicts participate in activities such as break-ins and robbery. When someone is desperate for something, they will go to the extremes to get what they want. The “Free Heroin For Addicts” program is trying to help reduce the crime rate by giving out free heroin. How can giving out free drugs be a positive? Giving the drug straight to the person in need greatly reduces the illegal extremes of obtaining such substance. But, it still drives the need and reliance for the drug. While the program may help the safety of everyone else, giving out a drug is still harmful to mind and body of the user. While one problem is fixed, the other problem may have became stronger.

The addicts are struggling in life’s day to day activities. Jobs, social interactions, and relationships are all area that are harder to maintain. Heroine addicts will do anything to secure the drug. Breaking and entering, as well as stealing have become common for the addict community. The “Free Heroin for Addicts” program hasn’t helped stop drug use though. The program is only trying to reduce the city’s crime rate. By providing the drug, these addicts will be off the streets, which in turn will prevent them from committing minor street crimes. Another objective of the program is to keep users out of the hospitals. Hospitals will have decreased the number of patients who come in with problems surrounding unsterilized needles, but free heroin is still being given out. This program helps keep crime out of the streets and users out of hospitals yet does nothing to stop the addiction issue that will tirelessly continue on.

If the people are given heroin, then the streets will be safer and the hospitals will be less active with those in withdrawal or need to feed their addiction. This distribution of heroin will be the cleanest way possible and prove to solve one issue. However, this is only one issue that is being solved, the crime rate. Addiction is still being fueled and will continue to flourish until the people see this as a problem again.
