Online Learning Vs Traditional Learning

Education can be very important to a person’s life. It can show or teach them new things that they never knew and help guide them in life. Traditional learning was in full effect until the Coronavirus took full effect, killing 2.57 million people worldwide. This virus caused schools to move fully online in hopes of slowing the spread and transmission of the virus. Some students were most likely relieved to be away from the school building and atmosphere, but others were scared, anxious, confused and worried about how this online school system was going to work and how they were really going to learn. This virus was something that the world had never faced before and it took all of us by surprise and turned our entire lives upside. Even through all this some people still ask the question “will schools reopen back to normal or will it still be online.”

Traditional education and online education have numerous similarities. The main similarity is the education students gain. Whether the class is being taught online or in person, students are given the opportunity to learn and become successful. In both settings, it is mandatory that students attend class, participate, do homework, take quizzes, and take exams, which are all needed to have a sustainable learning experience. Whether you are sitting in a traditional setting or an online setting, students tend to have access to the internet, textbooks, e-books, other online resources, and teachers. These two types of learning depend on an instructor. Whether you are seeing your teacher in person and asking questions, or having an online class where you only get to email your teacher, you still are able to gain contact with them. Meaning, if you were to have any questions on the lesson, you are still getting the help you needed no matter where you are. But depending on the type of online program a student is attending, they may get to view a pre-recorded lecture or a live lecture that lets them ask the same exact questions that they would ask in a traditional setting. If you want to learn applied technical skills, online learning is a great place to enhance them. When studying online, you are challenged to step outside your comfort zone.

Although online learning and traditional have numerous similarities, they also have plenty of differences. The main difference is that the communication and the lecture style is different. Online courses can be done at any location, which means the student does not have to worry about the transportation, whether they are walking, taking an uber, getting a ride from a friend, riding the subway, etc. For example, “if a student were to wake up 15 minutes after their online class were to begin, they can easily open their computer, join the class, and turn off their camera.” Meanwhile, if a student who attended traditional classes woke up late for their class, they would be a lot more than 15 minutes tardy. They would have to prepare for their class, find transportation to school, and then when they finally get to the school, they would have to walk all the way to their class, now making them 30-40 minutes late. Instructors teaching online can either decide to pre-record their lecture the day before, meaning that the class gets to listen to the lecture but not ask their questions right away, or they can attend synchronous classes which are known as “live online” classes. This is when students and their teachers meet virtually on specific days and times. Live online allows the students to ask their questions while the teacher is giving the lecture, but must continuously mute and unmute themselves. Some students may continuously have to move their cursor around to click and unclick the mute button when they have a simple question which they could find inconvenient at times, but in a traditional setting, the only thing necessary in order to ask or answer a question is raising your hand.

Online learning may have a negative impact on children and adolescents due to Covid-19. Covid-19 is keeping kids awake at night longer than usual. The kids are being forced to be confined in the house due to strict rules that means less exercise which will ultimately mean kids putting more weight on which can interfere with their sleep school. Students deprived of sleep will result in longer naps during the day disrupting their sleep schedule at night. All that results in students being on their phones later in the night being exposed to “blue light,” which disrupts melatonin, the body’s cue to sleep.

Students who took online classes have also seen an increase in mental health such as depression, anxiety and stress. An article ran a test on college students in New Jersey and it was shown that there was a high level of depression associated with the difficulties of being able to focus in school. Covid-19 has taken a toll mentally on college students who are trying to learn for their majors and get their life in order but they have to learn online which is an unfamiliar, unorthodox way of learning.

Students who take online classes do in fact miss out on the “normal” learning experiences that prepare them for any of their careers. There are a lot of skills traditional classes teach individuals that online classes can not. Basic communication skills, even if that includes speaking with classmates and collaborating with them. Although you can collaborate in online classes, it contrasts when you are within the same vicinity as the people you are working with. You can develop a chemistry that will help turn the work that much better, the teacher will be able to see that these students have really worked together. The second learning experience an online student misses is presentation skills, online students are not under the pressure of having to face 30 or more and presenting a topic, “they can easily turn off their cameras and give a presentation depending on the class and the instructor.” For example, if a student were to enter the business world and have to give a presentation, if they took online classes their whole college career, they would likely not feel as prepared as a traditional student who has given multiple face to face presentations. Traditional school helped students have a stable and consistent game plan from Monday to Friday.

The Stigmatization of Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline personality disorder is often considered among the most emotionally painful (for sufferers and those affected by them) personality disorders. BPD is often diagnosed on the basis of quite a few symptoms and behaviors. BPD is a serious mental disorder with a characteristic pervasive pattern of instability in affect regulation, impulse control, interpersonal relationships, and self-image.(Lancet 2004) It is known to affect about 1-2% of the general population.

Borderline personality disorder causes severe impairment in the sufferer’s life. They struggle daily with controlling their emotions, thoughts, and actions. They often describe having wild mood swings, making it difficult to describe their exact feelings at any given moment. Their opinions and outlook on life situations are prone to change rapidly and uncontrollably, making it hard for them to maintain a positive or consistent outlook on almost anything, especially when it comes to social relationships. They tend to exhibit a behavior which  is known as “splitting”, in which they will view every situation in black and white, rather than with gray areas, like a neurotypical individual. This is especially evident in their interpersonal interactions. They can go from idolizing or being absolutely infatuated with someone, to hating them in a split second. While this is out of their control, it is especially painful for those close to them. They also tend to have difficulty managing these thoughts, which tends to make them feel out of control or to self label themselves as “crazy” or “insane”. This can make it hard for sufferers to feel like they even know themselves, and have a hard time establishing their own identity, which is rapidly shifting and unstable.

Those afflicted with this disorder tend to seek professional help, especially in times of great crisis. According to Robert S. Biskin’s academic article The Lifetime Course of Borderline Personality Disorder, Sufferers of BPD are often seen only when in times of crisis, if they are not already part of a long time treatment program. This leads many to have the impression that those with BPD are constantly in crisis and are never recovering, which in turn causes mental health professionals to stigmatize these individuals and give them little to no real treatment. However, research shows the opposite of this.

In the McLean Study of Adult Development, a group of 290 patients originally hospitalized at McLean Hospital with a diagnosis of BPD, were assessed 6 months after the start of the study, and then annually for 10 years. By the end of the study, 85% of patients described a 12 month or longer period of symptom remission and improvement. This proves that with proper care and treatment, sufferers of borderline personality disorder do have the potential to make significant progress and live better lives.

In a similar study by the American Journal of Psychiatry, a group of 38 patients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder were placed in either partially hospitalized care, or standard psychiatric, appointment based care. Both groups were measured on their frequency of self harm or suicide attempts, number of inpatient admissions, and their own measures of depression, anxiety, and interpersonal function. The partially hospitalized group of patients showed substantially decreased negative symptoms when compared to the group met with standard psychiatric care. This shows that specialized care for these individuals is key to helping them improve their condition significantly and properly.

According to Lindsay Sheehan’s psychiatric article The Stigma of Personality Disorders, stigma can be described as a range of a lack of eye contact, to complete ostracization of an individual belonging to a stigmatized group. Due to public attitudes towards mental illness, the mentally ill are often seen as to blame for their behaviors, as if it is their conscious choice to act out. Not only is BPD among the most stigmatized of all personality disorders, but it is also the most researched in terms of Stigma.(Sheehan 2016) When asking nurses in Israeli psychiatric hospitals about their views of different mental health patients, they showed the most negative attitudes towards those with Borderline Personality Disorder. Another study showed that psychiatrists tend to exhibit the least empathy towards those with BPD.

This is a very complicated issue not only because of the poor treatment, but for the reason that this knowledge completely discourages sufferers from seeking help. Why would you seek help, when you know the person helping isn’t going to do their job? This is the kind of helpless mindset that those with BPD often have not only towards their lives in general, but also their healthcare providers. There needs to be established trust and transparency between patients and mental health specialists, as this is the only way effective treatment can occur.

In Amanda Vandyk’s original article titled Why go to the emergency department? Perspectives from persons with borderline personality disorder, she states that most healthcare providers describe that patients with BPD are “difficult” and “a pain in the ass”. This kind of attitude shows that a portion of clinicians clearly dread dealing with these patients. They have also been found to describe patients as “attention-seeking” and “manipulative”. Those with BPD suffer from intense feelings of loneliness, despair, and fear of abandonment. This directly triggers an emotional response due to these fears.

The most important thing to remember about individuals with BPD is that they never choose to act the way that they do. The symptoms of BPD are extremely intense and uncontrollable. Sufferers struggle to survive in their own skin with these symptoms, which is why they seek licensed professionals to help them. If they could control these feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, they wouldn’t be in a psychiatrist’s office multiple times a week looking for assistance. Understanding and acknowledging the struggles of those with borderline personality disorder is imperative to treating them. Healthcare professionals need to take the time to evaluate these people respectfully and develop better strategies to treat and handle them. With a personality disorder mainly characterized with a fear of feeling hopeless and alone, turning a sufferer away rather than helping them pushes them down a hole they will have a very hard time climbing out of on their own.

White Paper-RowanRat

My hypothesis:

Songs consisting of dark or emotional tones and themes may be a result of mental illness among the musicians creating the lyrics.

There are many more artists than you could imagine who suffers from some type of mental illness. For example, some artists who suffer from anxiety are Ariana Grande and Ellie Goulding. Artists dealing with depression alone are Bruce Springsteen, Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Lizzo, and Logic. Further, some who deal with depression and suicidal thoughts are Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar. Some of those who deal with PTSD are Elle King and Lady Gaga. Lastly, those who deal with bipolar disorder are Demi Lovato, Halsey, and Mariah Carey. These artists have used music as an outlet and their disorders may reflect in their music.

There is a common link between creativity and mental illness. Many songs reflect the type of life an artist has. Further, one’s mental health is a significant part in one’s life. Therefore, it is more than likely that if an artist suffers from some type of mental illness, it will show in the songwriting of those artists. Meg Hutchinson describes her experience with mental illness and how it affects her music. Hutchinson suffers from bipolar disorder. She explains how in her song, “The Living Side” she expresses how she promises to stay on the living side. This proves that mental illness is commonly displayed in the lyrics of their music.

Pick up the numbering from here. It gets confusing.

An interview with The Singer-songwriter and mental Health Advocate, X.ARI! (n.d.). Retrieved March 06, 2021, from https://music.allaccess.com/an-interview-with-the-singer-songwriter-and-mental-health-advocate-x-ari/

X. Ari suffers from anxiety, depression, PTSD, and insomnia. Some lyrics she’s created include, “There was no dim light at the end of the tunnel and every part of my being thought this was the end. If I only knew that so many people have similar struggles, I would not have felt so alone. Perhaps I would been able to recover sooner had I not been so ashamed.” As you can see here, she is openly discussing her mental illness in this song. This is an example of lyrics that describe the current state of their lives. There isn’t much digging needed to find examples of some sort of mental illness here. However, this is a good example of how music is used as an outlet for mental illness and has a significant impact on the lyrics created.

A form of therapy for those suffering with some sort of mental illness is music therapy. With this form of therapy, one is able to analyze the type of music created to understand an artist’s self-concept and rehabilitative needs. Further, one is able to see those issues in the lyrics of their music. By examining an artist’s work, a professional is able to notice psychological and developmental processes where they may have not been able to notice in other ways. Because of this, there are great benefits for the artists combining analytic approaches of song analysis with an experiential, arts-based investigation.

There are many songs with dark lyrics that are a result of the artist having mental illness. Eminem suffers from depression and his song, “Stan”, writes “You coulda rescued me from drowning / now it’s too late, I’m on a thousand downers now, I’m drowsy / and all I wanted was a lousy letter or a call.” Another by Eminem, “Rock Bottom” writes “My life is full of empty promises and broken dreams / I’m hopin’ things look up; but there ain’t no job openings / I feel discouraged, hungry and malnourished” Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day suffers from panic disorder and his band’s song, “Basket Case,” writes “Sometimes I give myself the creeps / sometimes my mind plays tricks on me / it all keeps adding up I think I’m cracking up / am I just paranoid or am I just stoned?” Morrissey of The Smiths suffers from depression and his band’s song, “I know It’s Over” writes “Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head.” All of these songs demonstrate how mental illness affects and is apparent in the lyrics of those artists who are suffering.

Current state of my research:

Not only have I found my first five sources, but I’ve also set myself up for having much more research. Some of the articles I have read gave me more information and avenues for my research. I have a list of many artists to examine as well as more topics to read into further.

Practice Opening – Rosekyd

Although the vaccine is meant to help, the people of Nigeria are still very skeptical of it’s effectiveness and it’s side effects. According to the article, vaccination teams were not only rude about handing out this vaccination but also all they had to offer was an oral vaccination, which raised a lot suspicion about contamination inside the vaccine. Rumors about AIDs and infertility drugs being inside the oral vaccine were spreading like wild fire to the point where in 2003 and 2004 four states banned the oral vaccine, raising the cases in 2006 of polio.

Working Hypothesis

Eliminating the ability for fast fashion websites to exist in first world countries will cause more people to frequent thrift stores and therefore lessen the amount of clothes in landfills leading to a healthier environment.

Purposeful Summaries

Journal of Cleaner Production, Life cycle assessment of clothing libraries: can collaborative consumption reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion?

“Fast fashion” is a supply model meant to get trends to consumers as quickly as possible for the cheapest price. Trends are constantly changing, making the practical service life of the clothes being purchased much shorter than the technical service life. The clothes are being thrown away before they have been worn to their full potential. The clothes were inexpensive to begin with and therefore are thrown away without much thought, leading to a huge environmental impact.

One solution to lessen the environmental impacts of fashion and lengthen the practical service life of clothes is collaborative consumption. Collaborative consumption is consumers exchanging the ownership distribution of a resource for a fee or other compensation. This includes when a resource is borrowed, swapped, traded or rented. Collaborative consumption is part of the sharing economy.

Governance of sustainable supply chains in the fast fashion industry

There are three important theories to look at when considering the sustainability governance framework; sustainability theory, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and supply chain governance (SCG).

Sustainability theory measures the performance of the fast fashion supply chain in its entirety. It focuses on the benefit maximization which is based on the balance among society, environment and economy. Sustainability means the development of products meets the needs of the current generation without negatively affecting the needs of future generations. The “Triple Bottom Line” of sustainability is used because it encompases the importance of economic, environmental and social performances. This forces corporations to change their objectives to no longer only focus on the economical aspects.

Corporate social responsibility is applicable when companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their businesses. CSR is consistent with social expectations, which increases the corporation’s benefits and also improves its competitiveness and reputation. There are 2 ways a company can benefit from when implementing a strong strategic CSR. First, they can receive long-term benefits through participation in social projects that communicate the relationship of CSR and the corporate strategy. Second, they will attract customers who pay more attention to the sustainable attributes of a product. Strategic CSR is an effective tactic to combine and facilitate the sustainability governance of the fast fashion supply chain.

Supply chain governance focuses on gathering resources of all participants in a supply chain.SCG focuses on the institution, the structures and the mechanisms that guide, regulate and control the activities which emerge from stakeholders of the supply chain. SCG is a framework for how decision making is carried out in a supply chain. The focal company can ensure the maximum benefit for all supply chain participants by coordinating them and focusing on the sustainability of the supply chain.

The motivational drivers of fast fashion avoidance

Environmental and Social Impact of Fashion: Towards an Eco-friendly, Ethical Fashion

There are several major environmental impacts that fashion causes. There are environmental impacts based on the different fiber production for both natural and synthetic materials. Polyester, elastic and Lycra are the most common fibers found in wardrobes. These fibers are cheap and their manufacturing causes pollution along with the issue that they are difficult to recycle.Spinning, weaving and industrial manufacture undermine air quality. Dyeing and printing consume vast amounts of water and chemicals, and release numerous harmful agents into the atmosphere.

The economy relies on consumerism which was brought forward during the industrialization era. Economic growth began to depend on the production of new products that were marketed in a way to make consumers dispose of the old ones. Stylistic norms and societal pressures made the old products seem obsolete. Ethical fashion requires collaboration between designers, manufacturers and consumers to address the impact of production processes and consumption patterns.

Slow Fashion in a Fast Fashion World: Promoting Sustainability and Responsibility

Fashion is among the world’s most polluting industries: it requires large quantities of raw materials, creates high levels of pollution, leaves a significant carbon footprint, and generates copious levels of waste. The relationship between the fashion industry’s need to continually evolve to satisfy consumers’ insatiable desire to acquire the latest trends and the loss of exclusivity as consumers acquire the most popular garments, shows that the fashion industry is inherently opposed to sustainability.

A movement to combat fast-fashion has arisen known as slow fashion which places emphasis on more sustainable practices. This movement naturally promotes sustainability through more ethical sourcing and production techniques as well as by using organic, recycled, or more durable materials. The labor involved in the production of such garments receives higher wages and greater protection than those in the supply chain of the fast fashion industry. While finished garments may cost more, they last longer and incorporate more timeless styles to combat the need for only wearing the latest trends. While this movement faces a hard battle against mass marketed designs it is important to recognize that there are movements out there trying to compete with fast fashion. Companies that do slow fashion practices should provide a template for the future of the global fashion industry.

Political economies and environmental futures for the sharing economy

On the platforms where the sharing economy is put into practice, people offer under-utilized goods that the consumers do not consume all the time and therefore have an excess. These consumers enter a positive-sum gain by lending or renting out their goods when they are not consuming them.

Collaborative consumption is an example of sustainable consumption because the consumer is avoiding the purchase of a first-hand consumption good. By using this method, the total number of goods in the economy can be reduced drastically without giving up consumer welfare.

Current state of my research

While I am happy with the sources I was able to find, when I have time this weekend I would like to look further into more solutions to the environmental impacts of fast fashion. Most of what I have found so far is just what the environmental impacts are.

Claims – rosekyd

To start off with the first claim I found in section six, This seems to be a moral/ethical or evaluative claim to me.

She is not, according to Brannan, “a normal, carefree six-year-old.”

This is mostly an evaluative claim because he’s claiming that after reviewing her own behavior he can confidently state that this girl is not a normal six year old. So now looking more into this I believe this is probably a evaluative claim.

Different studies of the children of American World War II, Korea, and Vietnam vets with PTSD have turned up different results: “45 percent” of kids in one small study “reported significant PTSD signs”; “83 percent reported elevated hostility scores.” Other studies have found a “higher rate of psychiatric treatment”; “more dysfunctional social and emotional behavior”; “difficulties in establishing and maintaining friendships.”

The is obviously a quantitative claim because of the way they are stating the claim with evidence from research.

When more rigorous controls were applied, there was no evidence for the intergenerational transmission of trauma.

I’d say that this is an evaluative because based off of the last paragraph which stated all of the evidence to make this claim, this is just a claim to confirm another question.

Holocaust survivors “had more resources and networks, wider family members and community to support them to adapt to their new circumstances after a war.” They were not, in other words, expected to man up and get over it.

I would put this as a more Casual claim because you can kind of see the cause and effect here. Because of the events that happened to these people and the community surrounding them to help them recover, of course they weren’t just expected to get over it just like that.

White Paper- imgoingswimming

My Hypothesis: Electric cars do not truly run on clean energy as the source of their energy is not clean. Rushing to electric cars as the answer will not be the correct way to solve our problem although it does help.

Source 1). Gasoline Vehicle Phase out Around the World

Many States and Countries are planning on making electric cars the only buyable cars by 2035 or other times around that. New Jersey itself has passed a legislation that only electric vehicles will be sold by 2040. These goals are great for the environment but there are some downsides that people are not concerning themselves with. The line from where the electricity comes from to when it gets to your electric car is tainted. Many countries are planning on going to all electric vehicles by a certain date, but only British Columbia has actually passed legislation on a ban of the sale of new electric cars by 2040.

Source link: https://www.coltura.org/world-gasoline-phaseouts#:~:text=New%20Jersey%3A%20In%20October%202020,sales%20being%20electric%20by%202040.

2). Electricity in the United States.

While we look at electric cars as the future of clean energy they do not actually run on clean energy. In fact, in the United States cars only run on 17% renewable resources, 20% nuclear, 23% coal, and 38% natural gas if a person does not use solar. A car that runs on almost a quarter coal does not seem like it could be the future to me, but if can if this was to change. The percent of this renewable energy has been growing since the 50s and the diversity of these sources has also increased over time. Wind and solar have skyrocketed in popularity since the early 2000s.

Source link:The US energy administration- Energy consumption in the US

Source 3). Electricity usage in China

Energy Use in China is even worse as their energy usage is 59% coal, and second is 20% petroleum and other liquids. This means that these electric cars in China would run on 79% coal and fuel in China and this doesn’t account for energy lost as it makes its way to the vehicle. Coal usage was decreasing over several years, but in 2018 and 2019 it has started increasing this usage yet again. These vehicles are actually less efficient in China than in the United states.

Source link:The US energy administration- Energy consumption in China

Source 4).Coal and the Environment

So what is the issue with coal? The issue with coal is that it causes much pollution such as emitting Sulfur dioxide which causes acid rain, Nitrogen oxides which cause smog and lung illness, carbon dioxide, and even mercury and heavy metals. This means that it is not just bad for the environment but also for us. This is the most concerning percentage of electricity production.

Source link:https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/coal/coal-and-the-environment.php

Source 5). Environmental impacts of Solar Power.

We can use other sources for energy such as solar, but these even solar has some drawbacks. Unlike wind that can share land for agriculture solar does not have this availability. The downside of solar is that it takes up land, they use a lot of water, and can use very hazardous chemicals that if not taken care of properly causes risks. This can be dangerous for workers making them as they can inhale silicon dust. Many safety precautions are put in place for the safety of the workers and making sure the products are disposed of safely. The pros outweigh the cons when it comes to solar energy, but people will have to realize more electricity will be used as more cars become electric making these solar farms having to grow largely in size to keep up. The diversity in energy is the best option as differing areas across the globe have different abilities to produce electricity because of their environment.

Status of Research.

I have already found many more sources for the topic of clean energy, and also how we will have to adapt/ build over the next decade. My main focus for the next five sources will be how much more energy we will have to produce in order to keep up with the larger demand of electricity. How will we build all these plants before 2035 and what kind of electricity should we focus on and where? There is no lack of sources on the matter of clean energy or information on our energy consumption, but there are not many talking about the awareness of electric vehicles not being run on majority clean energy. Much of my work is finding these dots and making connections which is going well.

White Paper – rosekeyd

My Hypothesis:

Due to the natural tendency for humans to categorize, stereotyping has lead to strong prejudices and racism across America.

Weir, K. (2017, October). What’s at the root of racial stereotyping? Retrieved February 28, 2021, from https://www.apa.org/monitor/2017/10/stereotyping

Studies have shown that black Americans with more Afrocentric features, like as darker skin, coarser curlier hair and bigger lips, are more often perceived more negatively and more stereotypically than those with less Afrocentric features—even by members of their own racial group (Personality and Social Psychology Review, Vol. 8, No. 4, 2004).”If you bring it up in an interracial context, it can challenge majority [white] people’s idea that the world is a fair place. It upsets the status quo,” he says. “As a result, black people who bring up the idea often experience backlash. There’s this idea they are ‘playing the race card.” Because of all the negatives about stereotyping people often find themselves defending themselves when people challenge who they really are.

Stereotyping has lots of negative effects on people of all cultures, races, sexual identity and age. There is a really high chance that heard these stereotypes because these are hard to avoid from a day to day basis. The simple solution would be just to avoid these negative thoughts but since it’s our human tendency to categorize almost anything this can be hard to disregard. “False beliefs about our abilities easily turn into a voice of self doubt in our heads that can be hard to ignore.”

My paper is mainly focused on the impacts and developments of stereotyping and how that leads to racism and bad images for other races. Stereotypes are a huge part of social science because it impacts the mentality, self esteem and self image for lot’s of people, especially women. This article is focused on ways we can reduce these negative effect of stereotyping by keeping an open mind and trying to understand other peoples point of view. Of Course the world would be an easier place without this negativity but we can only try to get there one step at a time.

What are the causes of stereotypes? (2019, July 11). Retrieved February 28, 2021, from https://blogs.hope.edu/getting-race-right/our-context-where-we-are/the-history-we-inhaled/what-are-the-causes-of-stereotypes/

There are many factor that go into stereotyping which eventually leads to racism and other negatives ideas. Just simply knowing about different social groups often leads to stereotyping. Just the way humans tend to remember things seem to have labels on them to help us remember why it was significant in the first place. Of course there is the Illusory factor of how media and movies depict certain identities as an example or a joke, joking about these stereotypes is obviously not meant to be taken seriously but they leave a lasting impression on the viewer.

Overcoming racial STEREOTYPES // University Counseling Center // University of Notre Dame. (n.d.). Retrieved February 28, 2021, from https://ucc.nd.edu/self-help/multicultural-awareness/overcoming-stereotypes/

On the most basic level , it’s just human nature to categorize people. It’s the humans way of making a complex world much easier to comprehend without more thought. “Racial stereotypes are automatic and exaggerated mental pictures that we hold about all members of a particular racial group”. When people are stereotyped off of race most of the time we take into account any thoughts that don’t line up with what seems to be correct on these stereotypes about other racial group, again to make a complex world not so complex.

Current State of Research Paper:

I feel that my research paper is going pretty well right now. The reason I chose this topic is because it’s something that I’m passionate about and I have lot’s of ideas I can write the issue is that I just need the research to back it up. But I believe these sources are a great push for me to establish my thesis and make it sound legit.
