Money seems to have a big role in our society, but the poor can’t do much or get far if they don’t have any. Money is valuable in different ways, even when we don’t see it physically. In today’s society we must have faith in the government and in the banking system; if not, then we would have to hide all of the money under our mattress or around our house. I always thought money was simple; we either have some or we don’t—that’s it. However, being introduced to this assignment, the Yap Fei, US gold, French francs, Brazilian cruzeros, and debit accounts now seem similar. We don’t actually see our money being transferred. When we get paid, you aren’t handed cash, we don’t receive a physical check, the money’s all directly transferred to our bank account. The society just have to trust that we got more money.

Money seems to have a big role in our society; people can’t do much or get far if they don’t have any. Money is valuable in different ways, even when one doesn’t see it physically. In today’s society, individuals must have faith in the government and in the banking system that their money is being handled in the proper manner; if not, then one would have to hide all of their money under a mattress or around their house. I have no clue what happens in the banks, or how bankers take care of money. I always thought money was simple; either someone has money or they don’t—that’s it. However, being introduced to this assignment, the Yap Fei, US gold, French francs, Brazilian cruzeros, and debit accounts now seem similar. We never actually see our money being transferred. When one is paid, they aren’t handed cash, they don’t receive a physical check, the money’s all directly transferred to ones bank account, and the individual has to trust that his or her received payment.

Money seems to have a big role in our society; we can’t do much if we don’t have any. What really affects society is the social standings it creates. The poor may think the rich have life easier since they have all this money, but what the poor don’t understand is these money-abundant people may go through the same world problems as the less fortunate. Money may have value when you need it in certain situations, but as the saying goes “money can’t buy happiness”. Money is valuable in different ways, even when we don’t see it physically. In today’s society, we must have faith in the government and in the banking system that our money is being handled in the proper manner. Money is simple; we either have some or we don’t. Money is all about trusting the government and the system no matter what kind class we are in (poor, rich, midle class). Even though rich people get a better advantage then middle class poeple, we don’t see our money being transfered, so is like trusting the goverment to handle our paychecks.

Celebrity Criminal Cases: A Disadvantage for All

My opinion on the topic of an unfair criminal justice system is that High profile lawyers get their celebrity clients to obtain special and unjust treatment in a court of law, however, I am aware that many people do not have the same opinion as I do. Many people actually believe that high profile criminal cases have more disadvantages than anything else.

Although what I believe is different, other researchers and people believe that being a celebrity in a court of law is actually a negative thing. Because these criminals are of a high profile, their cases are likely to end up in the media, and this is not always a good thing. This means that the media can warp and force ideas into the publics minds, causing a disadvantage to the defendant. As stated in an article titled, “Televised Trials: Weighing Advantages against Disadvantages” by Susanna R. Barber, “Trial publicity may serve a crime control function and reassure viewers that justice is being served; but this same publicity encourages negative perceptions of criminals and fosters prejudice against defendants.” (280). This explains that yes, having a case that is publicized and open for interpretation by the world is just, but also that this type of exposure to a case can be detrimental to the defendants case. thus, giving them a disadvantage over a less high profile case.

Another reason these high profile cases have many disadvantages is similar but different to the last. As the last example this one talks about media coverage and being in the public eye, however, the difference is that the emotional effect on these criminals is toxic. These criminals are placed under a microscope and all of their mistakes are played out in front of not only a court, but the entire world. “Preparing for the High Profile Case: An Omnibus Treatment for Judges and Lawyers”, an article written by Gerald T. Wetherington, Hanson Lawton and Donald I. Pollock explores the idea that not only the criminals are at a disadvantage, but also the judges and lawyers taking on the case. “A judge who is assigned to preside over a high profile case should expect to be confronted with explosive free press and fair trial issues even before the first scheduled hearing.” (430). These judges are forced to deal with the backlash of the media and public outburst before the case is even closed.

Because so much publicity comes before the case is even in court for high profile criminals, “the necessity for court officers to begin preparations to handle the extraordinary judicial management problems that such cases generate.” (Pollock, 431). This means that so much money is involved in these cases that the court needs to be ready for all of the financial responsibilities that are to come and are able to replenish their losses at the end. In this case, the disadvantage is that their is a lot of money involved in cases that are of such high stature. Both the court and the defendant could lose a lot of money in this process.

Lastly, high profile criminal cases are at a disadvantage because it is noticed “that television exposure is a form of public punishment, leading to permanent stigmatization in the eyes of the community” (Barber, 282). In other words, those involved in these cases may gain a shameful reputation after the case is closed, even if they are found not guilty simply because of the negative exposure their case obtained in the media.

It is important to realize that not everyone will have the same opinion as you. I do realize that my belief that celebrities are treated better than average criminals is unorthodox and that more people believe that these high profile cases are at a disadvantage. Others believe that celebrity criminals can lose everything in a court of law just like anybody else, however, I disagree with that statement.

Sneaker Obsession Is Wrong

In the past year, there has been a dispute how sneakers being something more than just a shoe. While professionals and others believe that Sneakers is actually changing teens life’s for god not bad. Kevin Smith, is an American filmmaker, actor, comedian, comic book writer, author, and pod-caster, believes that we must see the good side of sneaker obsession and how is  not really a big deal. In his 2014 article, “ The Science Behind Our Sneaker Addiction” Smith reminds the readers that course of generation to generation sneakers had been a obsession that teens can’t resist. It’s causing problem and even relationship and friendship issues. To prove and analyse his point that sneaker is not a bad obsession and that kit helps you, Smith argues that sense sneakers are a big part of teens life this days is considered beneficial and normal. Therefore, Smith claims to let teens stay with their sneaker obsession because it makes them be more sociable and more confident to themselves. I agree with Smith when he says that sneakers make teens more sociable, but I say that it doesn’t change the fact that it still causing problem and even increasing death rate and robbery. It’s also affecting our financial responsibility and our own identity.

Smith says that being obsessed with sneakers is actually a good thing because it increases personal value when they get the sneakers. Even Dan Cherry a advertising executive in New York, says that  shoes express teens individuality that makes other teens go towards him or her to know them better. They see them as cool kids. However, the parent network “Family care” in 2019 article “What’s up with your son and sneaker obsession”  as a recent search they state that “ Also keep in mind that boys often have judgments about who has the right to wear these shoes. As in, if you wear them but you can’t hold your own athletically, boys are going to make fun of you to your face or ridicule you behind your back.” Like when I was in 7th grade I really didn’t care about what shoes I was wearing I was more focus on my clothing and every time boys always bullied me and said things behind my back, even did rumors to start fights with me because I was just hanging a lot with girls and not boys. To add on, sneakers this days show your personality and that is scary because you wear a pair of sneakers to feel part of a group but at the end they will make fun of you because that’s not you and because of this reasons having sneakers or not having is the same kind of rejection.

In Smith eyes he is sure that teens obsession with sneakers will lead them to great and better socialization and better life. In Spite of these, we could say that teens are getting comfortable purchasing expensive shoes not having in mind how many deaths are happening just because of expensive sneakers. Like Marc Bain a Fashion reporter said in his article “1,200 people are killed each year over Sneakers” says,  “An estimated 1,200 people die over sneakers every year, according to a video posted Nov. 14 by GQ magazine. This is something we really have to worry about, sneakers now becoming a death issue Americans killing each other for some shoes. What does that say’s about us. As you can see this is already started to be a mental issues situation. Even though sneakers express our individuality, we have to think to ourselves when it comes to which one I should buy or wear? In this case we should always be aware who we are around with and having this pair or that pair of sneakers will do me good or bad.

Of course, Smith makes a fair point when he says that sneakers express teens individuality and personality making them feel part of a group and not left behind. The more people we see with new sneakers the more we want them too. He is also, right that sneakers has changed people’s lives. Most teens dedicate their time and money on new pair of sneaker to be  happy and feel part of something. However, I am still not convinced by Kevin Smith or Den Cherry arguments that Sneaker obsession is making teens be more sociable and happy even showing personality. Instead on depending on sneakers we have to control ourselves. The only way to really stop all of these and only look into the bright side is if we change. We could reduce the amount of deaths and problems , but it will only happen if we changed as people. Also, the way we think. You know how different life would have been if we help each other as brothers and sisters.

All in all, I believe we have to be focused on arguments life Smith’s. While he does point out that sneakers obsession are really beneficial when it come to socializing and showing teens individuality, I found his argument misunderstood. I say this because he is to focus on what teens feel inside and what other think about them, instead of really seeing what’s happening in the world. Deaths, bullies, thieves, suicide because of depression and more. Parents are also worried according to the Family Care Parent Network. How their kids are going to turn up to be and really worried about their financial status. This could all be fix, we could have the shoes we want to feel like we part of something, but it doesn’t have to turn into a obsession that could change the way you are living. Control your own life and don’t let fashioned especially shoes be the ones controlling you.
