    -Braille is read from left to right, or right to left.
    -Braille only needs a total of 6 dots to utilize in order to represent the whole alphabet
    -A 16 year old boy from France invented a more efficient way to utilize the 6 dots in Braille by repeating the same sequence as the first 10 letters, but adding a dot in the bottom left or/and right.
    -Why is there braille at the drive-thru window?
    -Tactile pavement near railroad tracks and roads are for the blind to navigate.

    We opened class learning about reading braille and how to decipher each letter to develop sentences
    Braille was invented by a 16 year old boy from france
    If you want to write in Braille you have to write from right to left so when you flip the template it will be on the correct side.
    The a-j were filled on the top and middle bar only
    Then k-t was the same as a-j but then they filled the bottom row
    Then u-z expect w was the same as the others but had one more bubble filled
    A number is a backwards L
    a capital letter in a bubble filled on the bottom right side.
    Then we made counterintuitive predictions on a reading we have never read
    True and false prediction is the world is not always reasonable, logical, or right. Even so, it might be true. You’ll decide whether it is true or false.
    Reasonable or Unreasonable. People act for reasons other than logic; among them sympathy, loyalty, hope, fear, vested interest and greed. You’ll decide whether it is reasonable or unreasonable.
    Right or Wrong. Decisions based on logic or reason can be ethical and moral, unethical or immoral. You’ll decide whether it is good or bad, ethical or unethical, moral or immoral.
    Then we discussed Robust subject and verbs
    Too many sentences use there is, there are and it is
    We are trying to eliminate it
    To say there is something we can say “it exists”

      I like this: True and false prediction is the world is not always reasonable, logical, or right. Even so, it might be true. You’ll decide whether it is true or false.

    -getting rid of extraneous language
    -do NOT use there is /there are /it is
    -the best writer accomplishes an opening that tells reader that something exists
    -revise your sentence so that your strongest subject completes the most robust action
    -“it is obviously the case that taxes depress the economy” if it really is that obvious you don’t need to tell your reader it’s obvious, just start your sentence with taxes depress the economy
    -BE DECLARITIVE
    -use ACTIVE verbs

    Only 6 dots are necessary to represent all letters and numbers in braille
    Braille system was made by a kid in France who wanted to make braille writing easier so more books would be made
    To take notes, you write braille backwards (sounds like too much work)
    Riddle: Why is there braille at the drive-thru window? (I shared the final three words with the class)
    Kaiser Permanente had a horrible 65% success rate diagnosing cancer through mammograms
    To make positive changes, the doctor started posted accuracy readings on the bulletin board and if you failed once or twice in a row, you were reassigned or straight up fired (Best way to do it)
    No verb weaker than “to be, becomes” among many others

    Eliminate “there is, there are, it is” as much as possible from your writing

    Brialle riddle: Why is there braille at the drive-through window?
    Counterintuitive article predictions- One would think that it would be a good thing for hospitals to get the best doctors at reading mammograms, instead of missing a cancer 1 in 3 readings.
    Got through 41 of the predictions in class.
    Common phrases can kill good prose. “to say something exists is a very weak claim.” Have to show that whatever “it” is is active in some way. readers won’t grab onto something that just exists. Robust subjects and verbs are a great tool to accomplish that. Get rid of generic verbs that don’t add anything outstanding.

    Our wake-up today is the braille riddle. First, we learned the braille alphabet along with numbers and some punctuation. The riddle answer in braille is “Why is there braille at the drive-through window”
    Counterintuitive predictions- We have the options of (true/false), (Unreasonable, Reasonable), (Good, Bad).
    A small sample from blind summary- If people should be held accountable they should have a bad rating and lose their job. This makes doctors take responsibilities in order to save the lives of women who need these mammograms.
    Robust subjects and verbs- Don’t begin sentences with There is/ There are, It is. Use verbs in our paragraph to persuade the reader.

    -“there is” “there are” “this is” are all phrases that keep things vague and can kill a prose
    -something needs to be said about “it”
    -avoid it when you can (always revise your sentences)
    -always keep the subject idea in your sentences
    -use action verbs
    -make an appointment for the next conference
    -finish robust subjects and verbs and brief summary of counterintuitive predictions

    • Braille is a tactile writing system used by people who are visually impaired. It is traditionally written with embossed paper. Braille users can read computer screens and other electronic supports using refreshable braille displays
    • The riddle for the Braille is that you repeat the sequence for the alphabet over and over again. All braille is written as a combination of six dots per cell. The dots are arranged as two vertical rows of three dots (or, depending on your perspective, three horizontal rows of two dots.) A single letter can be represented by as few as one, or as many as five dots.
    • Went over counterintuitive predictions that it is true premise, and it’s reasonable, and right.
    • Robust Subject and Verbs for example trying to eliminate There is / There are / It is in your writing in the future.
    • Taxes depress the economy is a example of a strong robust verb in a sentence in your writing which you should use more often.
    • Sentence-by-Sentence Revision is an act of revising or revising a full sentence in your writing that needs revising.
    • And we did a claims of counterintuitive predictions and picked one the following: Likely / Batshit Crazy / Bad False /Reasonable / Good Unlikely / Unreasonable / Wrong True / Not Crazy / Right
    • Schedule your second conferences as soon as possible so that the professor can see how good your doing so far.

    Braille riddle: “Why is there Braille at the drive thru window?” Women who are 40 years and older get mammograms every 5 years. If they find something, they keep getting mammograms more often getting them every year. Women are more likely to not come back for mammograms if they are not accurate or they don’t find anything. Activity on evaluating 50 claims and writing a paragraph about the article that never has been read. The weakest verbs are There is, There are, It Is. These verbs make your paragraph “half dead” and by eliminating those verbs, you are engaging your reader. These repetitive verbs take away from your argument. Revise the Vancouver paragraph by replacing weak verbs and replacing them with the most robust the argument will strengthen.

    Braille Riddle Warm Up

    Which is better false positives or false negatives
    Once in every 3 readings they got something wrong which is terrible
    It was common throughout the United States in the 90’s.
    That means millions of women were falsely diagnosed
    They sent a lady home who had trouble spots
    Each of them 2 years apart
    You would think the world would applaud when somebody comes up with a saw that doesn’t cut your hand off
    You would think the world would applaud if they could inaccurately diagnose fewer cancers
    Decisions based off logic or reasoning can be moral or immoral
    As long as its clear
    You can use whatever language you like
    If you think it is really unreasonable you can call it batshit crazy
    Reasonable or unreasonable ,likely not likely , true or false

    Wake up
    We learned about how the braille system works and how to read it.
    With the riddle we have to look at a phrase that was in braille and translate it into a sentence.
    The braille said: Why is there braille at the drive-thru window?
    Counterintuitive predictions
    Which one is better: a false positive or a false negative?
    Neither case is good, ounces in every three readings they got something wrong.
    We did an exercise where we had to determine if something was true or false, reasonable or unreasonable, and good or bad or wrong. After filling those out we were asked to write a blind review on the article of miss reading mammograms.
    Robust subjects and verbs
    To get rid of “it is”, “there are” and “there is”.
    To say that something exists is a weak claim, make sure to say something about it to engage the reader’s attentions
    That the strongest subject is the real subject is also the subject of your idea and use that with a robust subject and verbs.
    The most active verb that we can find to make it center stage.
